Big Buddy Shoot Out Rescheduled for June 14th drew a faithful crowd to Williston Middle School!
Members of the Wilmington Police Department once again challenged members of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department in an exciting game of Basketball as the Big and Little Buddies watched on.
Events included door prizes, musical entertainment with a live National Anthem sung by Outside the Walls Program Director Stephanie Price, you can catch song of her amazing talents on U-Tube! She amazed the crowd with her voice that filled the hall!, The cupcakes from Coastal Cupcakes and the Papa John's Pizza, and other snacks,were nothing compared to the afernoon of basketball the two teams the officers had in store for the fans, and the fan contests for the children, Case Manager Chad Mc Peters had planned. Half time entertainment rocked the house with a show by Physical Graffeeti & Xclusive.
The gym was hot, and the teams were on fire, the fans were on their feet as the final bell sounded with the New Hanover County Sheriffs Department narrowly defeating the Wilmington Police Department by one basket with a score of 51 to 49! We know that you will want to come out and see the rematch this winter. The game should be played in February of 2010. We look forward to announcing the date in the near future. All proceeds go to benefit the CFVC Big Buddy Program expenses. The money will be used to recruit, train, screen and manage new volunteers that work with little buddies, in addition the funds will be used to execute programming for those little buddies enrolled in the program. Over the next three years Outside the Walls, a program of the Volunteer Center will be searching for 300 mentors to work with those youth in our community most in need of guidance. Big Buddy is a key mentoring program that assists in this effort. This annual fundraiser is the main source of income to keep the case manager in place matching the buddies with the youth.
