First Annual Serve America Volunteer Leader Award
Honoring the Legacy of Senator Edward M. Kennedy
We are approaching the first anniversary of the passage of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the most comprehensive and expansive service legislation since Franklin Roosevelt's Presidency.
In celebration of this Act that is changing the face of volunteerism in America, and in honor of the legacy of Senator Kennedy, the University of Phoenix and Points of Light Institute will recognize 10 outstanding volunteer leaders who motivate others and are a true catalyst for change in their communities.
Volunteer leaders will be nominated by the public and finalists will be selected by a diverse panel of judges and honored during National Volunteer Week. To be eligible for this award, nominees must have been engaged in service as a volunteer leader for at least two years and made a great impact in the community.
Nine of the 10 finalists will be awarded $10,000 to donate to the nonprofit organizations of their choice. The top honoree will receive $15,000 to donate and will be recognized at the first ever LEAD Summit presented by University of Phoenix and Points of Light Institute in Washington D.C. on April 20th at the Newseum.
Nominations take place February 3 -- March 10, 2010 online. Learn more or nominate (handsonnetwork.org/volunteeraward) an outstanding volunteer leader in your community beginning February 3! Share your story, or the story of someone you know, and inspire others!
