Volunteer Generation Fund
The Cape Fear Volunteer Center wishes to share with you the following information from our up-line National affiliate the Points of Light Hands On Network, we are sharing this in an effort to get the word out about the Volunteer Generation Fund in case you are not aware of the Bill. Please do all you can to raise awareness of this bill. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is the least funded Volunteer Center in the state, I do not believe this will make us more funded, but we can hope it will bring dollars to volunteerism.
An amendment to add a Volunteer Generation Fund to build our nation’s community volunteering infrastructure will be offered on the floor by Congressman Loebsack of Iowa. Points of Light helped to craft this amendment and strongly supports it. Here are the action steps we need for you to take today:
Contact your U. S. Representative and urge him or her to support the Loebsack Volunteer Generation amendment and to vote for the overall legislation (HR 1388, the GIVE Act). The Capitol operator is 202-225-3121 or you can e-mail your Member by going to his or her website and clicking "contact." Convey how important this bill is to grow volunteerism and service and how important volunteer infrastructure is to this growth. (Check the website for additional information, a summary of the GIVE Act, sample letter and talking points).
Sign onto a letter to the full House of Representatives supporting the GIVE Act being sent by Voices for National Service by e-mailing info@voicesforservice.org. The deadline is COB Monday, March 16.
Alert other service organizations and nonprofits in your community to this unique moment in time and the urgency of communicating with Congress!
