Volunteer Center Extends Deadline to Submit Nominations Until August 5

Deadline Extended until noon on August 5, 2010

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service

 

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of this program that showcases North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers.  Through the years, North Carolinians have proven their concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local communities.   

 

Each county selects five individuals, businesses, and/or groups to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities.  One of the five recipients will be nominated to receive the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service.  A local committee evaluates the nominations.

Nominees and winners will be honored at New Hanover County Volunteer of the Year Awards dinner October 21, 2010.

Blue Ribbon Commission Holds Press Conference Wednesday

Cape Fear Volunteer Center Director, Annie Anthony, sits on Community Engagement sub committee of the Blue Ribbon Commission's Youth Enrichment Zone. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is dedicated to the at risk youth of Southeastern North Carolina, and working with the non-profits of the region. Partnering with the Commission to reduce youth violence and engage 4000 volunteeers is a natural partnersip. The following article outlines what the target mission and vision of the Mayor Bill Saffo, District Attorney Ben David, Reverend Robert Campbell, and Strategic Director Tufanna Thomas highlighted at the press conference for the community on April 21, 2010.
