Cape Fear Volunteer Programs

The Cape Fear Volunteer Center serves as a resource to connect those wishing to volunteer with organization that need volunteers.  Additionally, the CFVC overseas and facilitates the following programs.  If you are interested in any of these programs, please contact us for more information.

  • Days or Weeks of Caring

    • The Volunteer Center desires to position local companies to be seen in the community as having a focus on Community Service. After expressing a desire for doing a Day of Service, the Volunteer Center will put the word out to the many agencies it is affiliated with that there is a company that may be willing to be of service.   • Big Buddy

    • Cape Fear Volunteer Center’s Big Buddy program is a, one-on-one mentoring program that matches “at-risk” youth ages 6-18 in New Hanover County with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as “at-risk” due to the following circumstances: involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive in-school and out of school suspensions, poor academic performance, and lack of a positive role model.   • Port City Social Club

    • Port City Social Club is a non-profit promotions club for other non-profit agencies in the Wilmington Community.  We host events at local bars and restaurants, and encourage local businesses to become sponsors of these events.  Find more info at Facebook or Myspace.
  • Gifts in Kind

    • Agencies can register if they are interested. Any non-profit that is interested in free merchandise can inquire if they are eligible to participate in this program to receive free merchandise from local and national companies.
  • Reach the Beach

    •  Reach the Beach is the Wilmington area work camp sponsored by Group Work Camps (GWC), a Colorado based nonprofit interdenominational Christian volunteer home-repair organization.
  • Azalea Festival Children's Tea

    • More info soon.
  • Service Learning

    • The CFVC is a partner in the New Hanover County Schools Community Service Learning Program. Service learning is recommend through Title IV of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Component of No Child Left Behind, in an effort to increase student’s sense of community in a safe learning environment.   • Letter Carrier's Food Drive

    • Each year the volunteer center assists in gathering volunteers to man the 5 post offices to help the letter carriers unload their vehicles.  Canned goods are gathered to feed our local New Hanover County friends in need through the Food Bank
  • Kids Voting

    • The Kids Voting mission is to promote voter participation and educate students regarding the voting process.(Read More)
  • Kids Care Club

    • Kids Care Clubs  provide opportunities for young people to engage in meaningful hands-on service as a way to teach caring and compassion, educate about various community issues, and inspire civic involvement at an early age and for a lifetime.  Though our DS Club, Do Something Club by providing training and support for club functions like making buttons and selling them, or packing boxes for the troops in Iraq we are promoting the potential of youth volunteerism to local non-profit agencies.   • CARENET

    • CareNet is the Volunteer Center's program that is the catchall to assist community individuals that find themselves in need of assistance of non-traditional kinds.  They may need a ride for medical care, their lawn may need trimming due to being infirmed, they may need an automobile, they may request assistance with payment of bills, or repair of homes. While the Volunteer Center does not normally have funds to assist homeowners with repairs of homes or payment of bills, this program can attempt to assist the individual in meeting their own needs with referrals to other non-profits in New Hanover County, or by assigning volunteers to meeting their needs.
