The CFVC is a partner in the New Hanover County Schools Community Service Learning Program. Service learning is recommend through Title IV of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Component of No Child Left Behind, in an effort to increase student’s sense of community in a safe learning environment.“Students will develop a sense of caring and responsibility and understand the value of being a good citizen, while learning how to develop healthy lifestyles” as stated in Linking Service Learning: No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
The CFVC is placing all students of the Juvenile Day Treatment Center, an Alternative Education setting of New Hanover County Schools. This program is a partnership to provide services for long term suspended or expelled students. The CFVC’s objective is to provide at least one successful service learning opportunity for each student, as well as have them feel the associated value from having provided that service through the rewards of the Presidential Service Awards program.
